AUDITING PROCESSES

Auditing Processes

Auditing processes are the application of Scientology processes or procedures to a person, usually with the intention of improving their ‘case’. The end phenomenon of most auditing processes is very good indicators (i.e. a happy pc) and the pc to see an aberration for what it is, causing it to disappear with new realisation about life. The claims made about such processes are quite grand to say the least. Consider this quote from page 3 of ‘Introductory And Demonstration Processes Handbook’:

Simple Introductory and Demonstration Processes have produced spectacular results. One such process, Effort Processing (developed in Wichita, Kansas in 1951) caused quite a stir. A barrel placed in the organization’s reception area was soon filled with the discarded eyeglasses of Effort Processing preclears whose eyesight had changed radically for the better!

This page will give a brief sampling of some of the auditing processes in Scientology.

Grand Tour

Source: The Creation Of Human Ability 2007 edition, page 65.

The commands of the Grand Tour are as follows:

“Be near Earth,”

“Be near the Moon,”

“Be near the Sun.”

“Be near the Earth,”

“Be near the Moon,”

“Be near the Sun.”

“Earth,”

“Moon,”

“Sun,” giving the last three commands many times.

Each time the auditor must wait until the preclear signifies that he has completed the command. The preclear is supposed to move near these bodies or simply be near them, it does not matter which.

The Grand Tour continues with:

“Now find a rock.”

“Be inside of it,”

“Be outside of it.”

“Inside,”

“Outside.”

“Inside,”

“Outside.”

“Be in the center of the Earth,”

“Be outside of Earth.”

“Inside,”

“Outside,” and back and forth until the preclear is able to do this very rapidly.

Then the Grand Tour continues:

“Be near Mars,”

“Be at the center of Mars.”

“Outside ofMars,”

“Center.”

“Outside,”

“Now move down slowly toward the surface.”

The preclear will probably question this, for he has run into a force screen or thinks he has.

“All right then, be on the surface of Mars,”

“Be above Mars.”

“Be on the surface,”

“Be above Mars.”

“Move down to the surface of Mars.”

He is shifted into various positions in the vicinity of Mars until he is entirely used to that planet.

When the preclear is entirely comfortable in the solar system by reason of running the Grand Tour, do Change of Space with him (as below): First, on all the locations where he has received auditing, therapy or treatment of any kind here on Earth. Next, do all the key locations mentioned in History of Man, such as the entrance point of the MEST universe, the place where he made his first facsimile, etc.

This is run in this fashion:

“Be at the place where you entered the MEST universe,”

“Be at the center of this room.”

“Be at the place where you entered the MEST universe”

“Center of this room.”

“Entrance point,”

“Room.”

“Entrance point,”

“Room,” and so forth, until the entrance point is in present time.

The preclear should be made to run Change of Space on any area until that area is in present time. Originally it could be conceived that only the place where the preclear is, is in present time-that all other places are in past time to the degree that they are far from the preclear. The object is to get all areas into present time.

CAUTION: Change of Space is never run with the commands “Be here,” “Be there.” For when the preclear is “there,” it has become “here” to him. Thus the actual designation, in brief, should be given each time.

IMPORTANT: WHILE RUNNING CHANGE OF SPACE OR ANY PART OF THE GRAND TOUR, IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO REMEDY THE HAVINGNESS OF THE PRECLEAR.

This is done with the commands:

“Put up eight anchor points as though they were the corners of a cube around you,”

“Now pull them in on you.”

“Put up eight more,”

“Pull them in on you.”

Any dopiness, or increasing sadness, or a feeling of degradation on the part of the preclear, comes about from lack of havingness. In the Grand Tour, it is more important for the preclear to locate and occupy exact locations in space and in objects than it is for him to examine the surrounding area.

The mention to a force screen above refers to an incident involving the Fourth Invader Force when they occupied Mars (discussed here).

Learning To Drive A Car

Process To Teach Somebody To Drive

Source: Introductory And Demonstration Processes Handbook 1992 edition, page 294.

Reference: Lecture 22 Jan. 61, “Things of Scientology: Cycle of Action, Time Track, Stable Datum”

Use of Process: To help someone be able to drive a car.

Information: This teaches a person how to drive using the cycle of action. It is quite remarkable.

Procedure: Sit in the seat alongside the person and use these commands:

1. “Now, I want you to start the car.”

2. “Now change its gears.”

(The car is not going anywhere during this.)

3. “Now stop the car.”

Run these commands 1,2,3, 1,2,3, 1,2,3, 1, etc., to end phenomena.

Process To Help A Person Drive A Car

Source: Introductory And Demonstration Processes Handbook 1992 edition, page 295.

Reference: Lecture 9 Feb. 56, “Sixth Dynamic Decisional Processing”

Use of Process: To help a person be able to drive a car better.

Information: Power of choice is being least exercised about those things which the person has least moved around in space. If you want a person to regain power of choice on any object you get him to move that around specifically from spot to specific spot in space for a while and he’ll regain his power of choice on it.

Procedure: Have the person drive the car around and start and stop it. Sit in the seat alongside the person and use these commands:

1. “Start the car.”

2. “Move the car forward.”

3. “Stop the car.”

Run these commands 1, 2, 3, I, 2, 3, 1, 2, etc. It doesn’t sound like much, but after 25 or 30 times he will have quite a will. He’ll blow the automaticities.

How To Make A Person Sober

Source: Hubbard Qualified Scientologist Course 1988 edition, page 195.

There is an interesting use of Locational Processing as a way to make a person sober. The use of Locational Processing can make a drunk person sober in a very few short minutes.

The Locational Process is simply the command “Look at that (room object).” Use very good TR0. A drunk is usually considered somewhat unconfrontable and he himself certainly cannot confront. One thing he cannot confront is an empty glass. He always refills it if it is empty.

Repeat the command, each time pointing out a room object, as often as required to bring the person to sobriety. Do not go off onto answering the frequent comment “What object?” Just get the command carried out, acknowledge and give the next command.

DO NOT EVER GET ANGRY WITH OR STRIKE A DRUNK, WHATEVER THE PROVOCATION.

The process is not used to cure a person of alcoholism. There are more advanced auditing procedures that can be done to handle the conditions that caused a person to be alcoholic. But one can do a lot of good for the person and those around him by using this assist to bring him back to sobriety.

Process For An Unruly Child

Source: Introductory And Demonstration Processes Handbook 1992 edition, page 390.

Reference: Lecture 4 Mar. 57, “Control”

Use of Process: For a child who is unruly.

Information: Can be run on a child that is being bad, running around in circles and biting people and so on.

Procedure: The procedure is:

” (preclear’s name), walk over to that chair and touch it.”

Then take your hands and make his feet walk and his body move over to the chair and take his hand and put it on the chair.

” (preclear’s name), that’s fine.”

(When you say” , that’s fine,” you give him the idea that he has some capability of doing it. Even though he fought you the whole way and you had to practically drag him across the floor.)

And then say:

“Now, (preclear’s name), walk over to that door and touch it.”

And take your hands and walk his body over to the door, and make him touch the door. Then acknowledge him for it with: ” (preclear’s name), that’s fine.”

He might lie down and scream and stamp his heels and shout and everything else, if you didn’t walk him with your hands. He does not have a single, obvious volition in the execution of the action. Continue on in this way until the child comes out of it.

R2-45

In ‘The Creation Of Human Ability’ 2007 edition page 179 this is described as “An enormously effective process for exteriorisation but its use is frowned upon by this society at this time”. Hubbard further elaborates on the lecture ‘Rationale Of Create Series’, given on November 20th 1959 as part of the Melbourne Advanced Clinical Course:

They evidently kept running into the detachability of existence. And they couldn’t quite figure out how to detach this existence, course this was one of the goals of Buddha. And he was supposed to have sat under a Bodhi tree and done a bunk, I mean gotten exteriorized. One day he sat down under a Bodhi tree and found out he wasn’t him. See… That made him a Clear. Now, if that’s as easy, if it’s easy to make Clear as that, then we find he didn’t research very far, because I can make a Clear out of almost anybody under these circumstances. And even the cops or gangsters could make a Clear out of anybody over these circumstances by taking a Webley 38 or Smith & Wesson, or Colt or something like that and doing R2-45. That exteriorizes almost anybody.

Exteriorisation is defined in the tech dictionary as ”the state of the thetan, the individual himself, being outside the body.” Hubbard appears to be saying that shooting a person is a guaranteed way of making them exteriorise. This all takes a sinister turn when it is learned that Hubbard had ordered the use of R2-45 on some of his enemies. From Auditor Magazine no. 37 published in 1968, in the lower left of the page, we see his order to use R2-45 (text of the piece follows):

RACKET EXPOSED

E-Meter Auditing

The following video demonstrates an auditing session on the E-Meter. Note that that this occurred in the FreeZone, which is the term used to describe people who practice Scientology who are not members of the Scientology enterprise. The auditing session begins at about 3 minutes in the video:

The full documentary can be viewed here. More information on what occurs during an auditing session can be found here.

Remedy Of Laughter

Source: Introductory And Demonstration Processes Handbook 1992 edition, page 148.

Reference: ‘The Creation of Human Ability, “R2-26: Remedy of Laughter”

Use of Process: For preclears who are particularly serious.

Information: The earliest known psychotherapy consisted of getting a patient to laugh. Laughter is rejection. A preclear being continually inflowed upon by the physical universe at length may find it difficult to reject anything. Getting him to reject something could be made an auditing goal. The best manifestation of this is laughter. Laughter includes both surprise and rejection. The individual is surprised into rejecting. In order to laugh, he must have laid aside some of his ability to predict. An individual who is serious has laid aside so much of his ability to predict that he now cannot be surprised into rejection.

Procedure: In this process, only two steps are employed to remedy laughter.

Step 1

The first command is:

“Be completely certain that the wall is there.”

When the preclear has become with considerable conversation completely certain that the wall is there, touching it, pushing against it, and so forth, the auditor then says,

“Sit down, take this (your) watch,” “Now predict that the wall will be there ten seconds from now,”

“Have you done so?” ”All right, wait ten seconds by your watch.”

When this is done:

“Is the wall still there?”

And when the preclear has answered,

“Now make absolutely certain the wall is there,”

and the preclear does so by touching it, pushing al it, kicking it.

“Now make very sure that the wall is there.”

And when the preclear very vigorously has done so:

“Now predict that it will be there in ten seconds.”

And when the preclear has done so, the remainder of the above commands are given and this is repeated over and over.

When the preclear has experienced considerable relief and is absolutely sure he can predict that all parts of the room will be there, not only in ten seconds, but in an hour-although no such timing is used, and only ten seconds of time is employed- the second part of the process is begun.

Step 2

The auditor commands the preclear:

“Start laughing.”

And no matter what the preclear says thereafter; or what arguments he advances, or how many things he asks about, or how many reasons he wants or gives, the auditor merely says (adding words that urge the preclear), “Start laughing.”

And when the preclear at length docs so, no matter how halfheartedly,

“Keep on laughing.”

The two commands which are used in addition to words necessary to urge the preclear without giving the preclear any reason whatsoever are, “Start laughing” and “Keep on laughing.”

This process is then done until the preclear can actually enjoy a laugh without any reason whatsoever, without believing that laughing without reason is insane, without feeling self-conscious about laughing, and without needing any boost from the auditor.

Notes on Running: In the second part of the process, the auditor need take no pains to agree with the preclear by laughing. He need only chuckle or smile nor need he even particularly act seriously, his laughter is not needed or used in the process.
